The shocking discovery of child pornography sent shockwaves through the Manhattan community when former city attorney Bill D. Raymond, 53, of Andover, Kan., was charged with distributing the heinous material.
According to sources, Raymond is accused of distributing child pornography on three separate occasions in November 2014, February 2015, and May 2015 in Butler and Riley counties.
The disturbing allegations have left many in the community reeling, wondering how someone in a position of power could engage in such egregious behavior.
Raymond, who served as city attorney, faces severe penalties if convicted, including not less than five years and not more than 20 years on each distribution count, and a maximum penalty of 10 years and a fine up to $250,000 on the possession charge.
The FBI investigated the case, and Assistant U.S. Attorney Jason Hart is prosecuting. The case serves as a stark reminder that no one is above the law, and those who engage in such horrific acts will be held accountable.
The indictment, handed down on Sept. 30, 2015, contains allegations of criminal conduct, and Raymond will have to prove his innocence in court.
In a statement, U.S. Attorney Barry Grissom emphasized the gravity of the situation, saying, ‘If convicted, he faces a penalty of not less than five years and not more than 20 years on each distribution count, and a maximum penalty of 10 years and a fine up to $250,000 on the possession charge.’
