Kari Ameen Wheeler, a 38-year-old resident of East Conemaugh, Pennsylvania, has been sentenced to 138 months in prison for his role in a methamphetamine trafficking operation and unlawfully possessing a firearm.
According to the United States Attorney’s Office, Wheeler distributed and possessed with intent to distribute 500 grams or more of methamphetamine on or about August 21, 2024, in the Western District of Pennsylvania. Additionally, on or about August 23, 2024, Wheeler possessed two firearms and ammunition after previously having been convicted of a felony.
Federal law prohibits possession of a firearm or ammunition by a convicted felon, making Wheeler’s actions a serious offense. The sentence was imposed by United States District Judge Stephanie L. Haines, who also ordered Wheeler to serve five years of supervised release following his prison term.
The investigation leading to Wheeler’s prosecution was conducted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s Safe Streets Task Force and the Cambria County Drug Task Force. Assistant United States Attorney Arnold P. Bernard Jr. prosecuted the case on behalf of the government.
Acting United States Attorney Troy Rivetti commended the task forces for their work on the case, stating that their efforts led to the successful prosecution of Wheeler. The sentence serves as a reminder of the serious consequences of engaging in methamphetamine trafficking and firearms offenses.
