DALLAS — A grim tale of corruption and exploitation unfolded in federal court as Mitchell Weston Miller, 23, of Kaufman, Texas, was sentenced to serve a staggering 84 months in federal prison.
The sentence came after Miller, who has been locked up since his arrest in August 2016, pleaded guilty to transporting and shipping child pornography. U.S. Attorney John Parker of the Northern District of Texas announced the verdict.
The case’s factual resume painted a chilling picture, detailing how on November 23, 2015, Miller used his email account to send sexually explicit images of minors across the Internet.
Miller’s Google mail (Gmail) account became an conduit for more sinister activity. On December 22, 2015, it uploaded eight images of child pornography, and a search warrant revealed that approximately fifty-five emails contained child pornographic material. His cell phone was also harboring these sickening files.
This prosecution is part of Project Safe Childhood, a Department of Justice initiative aimed at tackling the child sexual exploitation epidemic since 2006. The FBI conducted the investigation, and Assistant U.S. Attorney Shane Read prosecuted the case.
