Kansas City, MO – A brazen bank robbery at Truman Medical Center has landed a Drexel man in federal prison for 12 years and seven months without parole. Jimmy Lee Bozeman II, 57, was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Howard F. Sachs for stealing $1,450 from the U.S. Bank on March 14, 2018.
On that fateful day, Bozeman demanded that a bank teller hand over all her $50 and $100 bills, warning her it was no joke and that he was armed with a handgun. The teller, initially hesitant, eventually complied after Bozeman ordered her to open a second drawer. However, just as he was about to get away with the cash, a hospital cafeteria employee approached the bank, prompting the teller to activate the hold-up alarm.
Bozeman quickly fled the scene, getting into a vehicle parked nearby and leaving the area. But his getaway was short-lived. Bank surveillance photos were released to the media, and several social workers at Truman Medical Center recognized Bozeman from the images. His ex-wife also identified him as the culprit.
This is not Bozeman’s first run-in with the law. He was previously convicted of bank robbery in the Western District of Missouri in 2009 and has prior felony convictions for robbery and armed criminal action. The FBI and Kansas City Police Department worked together to bring Bozeman to justice.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Joseph M. Marquez prosecuted the case, which involved a brazen act of violence in the heart of a hospital. The sentence handed down by Judge Sachs reflects the severity of the crime and the need to hold perpetrators accountable.
The case serves as a reminder that bank robberies are serious crimes that can have devastating consequences for individuals and communities. It also highlights the importance of community involvement in solving crimes and bringing perpetrators to justice.
Bozeman’s sentence is a significant blow to the community and a testament to the hard work of law enforcement agencies in keeping our streets safe.
