Jesus H. Salcedo, Possession of Child Pornography, Kansas 2024

Jesus H. Salcedo, 29, of Kansas City, Kan., is headed to federal prison for 78 months after admitting to possessing hundreds of child pornography files on his personal computer. The sentence, handed down Tuesday, marks the end of a forensic investigation that uncovered a disturbing digital archive of exploited children.

Salcedo pleaded guilty to one count of possession of child pornography, admitting that law enforcement recovered 480 images and 73 videos through a file-sharing program linked to his machine. Among the material were prepubescent boys engaged in graphic sexual acts—evidence that federal prosecutors called both extensive and egregious.

The investigation was led by the Overland Park Police Department and the FBI Cyber Crimes Task Force, which traced the illicit files to Salcedo’s home network. Agents used forensic tools to extract and verify the content, which had been hidden within encrypted folders and disguised file names.

U.S. Attorney Stephen McAllister, who oversaw the prosecution, said the case reflects the ongoing threat posed by online predators who exploit children from behind screens. “These crimes leave permanent scars,” McAllister said. “We will continue to pursue every lead, no matter how hidden the offender thinks they are.”

Assistant U.S. Attorney Christine Kenney prosecuted the case and praised the collaboration between local and federal agencies. The conviction is part of the Department of Justice’s broader Project Safe Childhood initiative, aimed at dismantling networks that produce and distribute child sexual abuse material.

Salcedo, now designated a federally registered sex offender, will serve his sentence in a federal correctional facility followed by supervised release. Authorities urge the public to report suspected online exploitation through the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children at 1-800-THE-LOST.
