New Orleans, Louisiana – In a blow to the drug underworld, 31-year-old Tevin Bornes of Kenner has pleaded guilty in federal court to violating key provisions of the Controlled Substances and Gun Control Acts. Bornes, who was arrested following a raid on his apartment last year, now faces a minimum sentence of five years for his crimes.
According to court documents, law enforcement officials uncovered an arsenal of illegal substances and firearms during their search. Bornes’ stash included 12.5 grams of marijuana, 47.74 grams of crystal methamphetamine, 9.75 grams of cocaine base, 137.22 grams of methamphetamine, and 14.5 grams of cocaine hydrochloride. Additionally, they seized four firearms from his residence, including two Glock pistols and a semi-automatic rifle.
Bornes has been charged with possession, with intent to distribute, methamphetamine and cocaine, as well as possessing firearms in furtherance of drug trafficking. He faces a mandatory minimum sentence of five years for the drugs and up to life imprisonment for using firearms in the commission of his crimes. The defendant also faces substantial fines and supervised release following any term of imprisonment.
This case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods, an initiative aimed at reducing violent crime and gun violence. Assistant United States Attorney Rachal Cassagne is handling the prosecution on behalf of the government.
Investigation for this case was conducted by Homeland Security Investigations, the ATF, and the Kenner Police Department. Bornes’ conviction sends a stern message that drug trafficking and the use of firearms in criminal activities will not be tolerated in the community.
The grim tally of illegal substances and weapons underscores the need for robust law enforcement efforts to protect the public from such dangerous individuals. With Bornes behind bars, local authorities hope to make Kenner a safer place for its residents.
