Jackson Man Faces Consequences for Crack Trafficking
A Jackson man has been held accountable for his role in a conspiracy to distribute cocaine base, also known as crack. Kenneth Lofton, 44, was sentenced to 175 months in federal prison for his involvement in the crime.
According to court documents, Lofton and his co-defendants negotiated and conducted the sale of cocaine base in the Jackson area in January 2020. Surveillance, confidential source information, and additional intercepted communications revealed that Lofton and his co-defendants distributed various quantities of other controlled substances, including cocaine, methamphetamine, and marijuana.
Lofton’s guilty plea on June 22, 2021, marked a significant milestone in the case. The plea was the result of an extensive investigation known as ‘Hailstorm,’ which targeted illegal drug trafficking in the Jackson area. ‘Hailstorm’ is part of an Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (OCDETF) investigation that uses a prosecutor-led, intelligence-driven approach to dismantle high-level drug traffickers.
The case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Jackson Police Department, and the Ridgeland Police Department. Assistant United States Attorney Keesha Middleton prosecuted the case.
