Gulfport, Mississippi – A devastating blow to the streets of Moss Point as Kevin Lashun Jones, 38, was sentenced to 199 months in federal prison for possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine. This harsh sentence is a testament to the dedication of law enforcement agencies in combating the war on drugs.
According to information presented to the Court, between July 22, 2021, and January 7, 2022, law enforcement officers purchased over 280 grams of methamphetamine and 2.7 grams of crack cocaine from Jones and one of his coconspirators. The sheer scale of the operation is a stark reminder of the dangers that lurk in the shadows of our communities.
Jones’s coconspirator, previously sentenced to 211 months in prison for this offense, has already begun serving time for their role in the crime. The ATF and the South Mississippi Metro Enforcement Team investigated the case, showcasing the collaborative effort of law enforcement agencies in tackling the complex web of crime.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Jonathan Buckner prosecuted the case, ensuring that justice is served and the perpetrator is held accountable for their actions. The harsh sentence handed down to Jones serves as a warning to those who would seek to peddle their poison on the streets of Mississippi.
The community can breathe a sigh of relief knowing that this individual will no longer pose a threat to their safety. As we continue to battle the scourge of addiction and crime, it is imperative that we support our law enforcement agencies and hold those responsible accountable for their actions.
In a statement, U.S. Attorney Darren J. LaMarca and Special Agent in Charge Kurt Thielhorn of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives said, “We will continue to work tirelessly to bring those responsible for these heinous crimes to justice.”
