Derrick Lewis, Methamphetamine Trafficking, Mississippi 2024

Derrick Lewis, 42, known on the streets as ‘Rat Boy,’ was sentenced yesterday to 110 months in federal prison for possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute in the Jackson metro area. The Clinton man’s drug operation spanned multiple deals, flooding neighborhoods with nearly a half-kilo of high-purity crystal meth.

According to court records, Lewis orchestrated four separate sales totaling more than 400 grams of meth. Forensic testing later confirmed the substance was 99% pure—a rarity that underscores the danger and sophistication of the supply chain. Each transaction pushed lethal doses into communities already ravaged by addiction and overdose.

Lewis’s criminal path began under federal radar until FBI surveillance tightened around his activities. The Federal Bureau of Investigation led the investigation, uncovering transaction patterns, direct sales, and communications that sealed his fate. On November 4, 2020, a federal grand jury returned an indictment. He pleaded guilty on July 22, 2021, avoiding trial but not time.

U.S. Attorney Darren J. LaMarca didn’t mince words in the aftermath: ‘This sentence sends a message—Mississippi will not tolerate large-scale drug trafficking.’ The prosecution, led by Deputy Criminal Chief Dave Fulcher, emphasized the purity and volume as aggravating factors that demanded a harsh penalty.

Lewis now faces 110 months behind bars, followed by four years of supervised release. Federal authorities say his moniker ‘Rat Boy’ may have once granted him street cred, but in court, it only reinforced a reputation of betrayal and decay. Agents say informants and wire evidence painted a clear picture of a dealer who prioritized profit over lives.

The case, prosecuted out of the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Mississippi, highlights the ongoing battle against synthetic drugs in the region. FBI Special Agent in Charge Jermicha Fomby stated, ‘Every high-purity batch intercepted is a potential epidemic averted.’ For now, ‘Rat Boy’ is off the streets—but the war on meth is far from over.
