NEW ORLEANS, LA – Kernelius Alford, a 35-year-old man from Metairie, was charged on December 13, 2024, in a six-count superseding indictment for firearm and narcotics violations, announced U.S. Attorney Duane A. Evans. 

According to the indictment, Alford possessed a firearm on May 2, 2024. He was prohibited from possessing a firearm due to his previous felony conviction(s).

Alford faces up to five (5) years imprisonment, a fine of up to $250,000, at least two (2) years of supervised release following any term of imprisonment for Count 1. He also faces a mandatory minimum of 5 years up to life of imprisonment, up to a $250,000 fine, and at least 5 years of supervised release for Counts 2 and 5.

The indictment charges Alford with possession with the intent to distribute controlled substances, possession of a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime, being a felon in possession of a firearm and ammunition, and more. This case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a program bringing together all levels of law enforcement and the communities they serve to reduce violent crime and gun violence.

Alford also faces payment of a $100 mandatory special assessment fee as to all six counts. United States Attorney Evans reiterated that the indictment is merely a charge and that the guilt of the defendant must be proven beyond a reasonable doubt.

This case was investigated by Homeland Security Investigations and the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Department. This case is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Troy L. Bell of the Violent Crimes Unit.

Kernelius Alford remains at large as of press time and is considered a fugitive. The public is urged to contact the authorities with any information regarding Alford’s whereabouts.
