Kevin Lawrence Carter, Methamphetamine Dealer Sentenced to Five Years in Federal Prison, Maryland 2020

Greenbelt, Maryland – In a shocking turn of events, a local resident has been sentenced to five years in federal prison for his involvement in a methamphetamine distribution ring. Kevin Lawrence Carter, a 40-year-old man from Faulkner, Maryland, was handed the harsh sentence by U.S. District Judge Paula Xinis.

Carter was charged with possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine, a serious crime that carries significant penalties. According to court documents, on July 30, 2020, law enforcement observed Carter engaging in a transaction where he sold one ounce of methamphetamine for $700 to an individual in a Clinton, Maryland parking lot.

Following the transaction, law enforcement continued to monitor Carter’s movements, eventually conducting a traffic stop on his vehicle in White Plains, Maryland. During the stop, a Charles County Sheriff’s deputy discovered a digital scale and a clear gallon freezer bag containing a white substance, later identified as 28.04 grams of pure methamphetamine.

The search of Carter’s vehicle also yielded 388 grams of pure methamphetamine, as well as $680 in cash. The remaining $20 was found to be the change from a gas station purchase. Lab results confirmed that the substance was 100% pure methamphetamine, with a total of at least 416 grams in Carter’s possession.

Carter’s sentence was announced by United States Attorney for the District of Maryland Erek L. Barron, who praised the efforts of Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) Baltimore and the Prince George’s County Police Department. Assistant U.S. Attorneys Joel Crespo and Elizabeth Wright prosecuted the case.

The case serves as a reminder of the severe consequences of involvement in methamphetamine distribution. The community is advised to report any suspicious activity to the authorities.
