Kevin S. Lahey, Unlawful Firearm Possession, Georgia 2013
ATLANTA – Kevin S. Lahey, a 26-year-old resident of Lilburn, Georgia, has been indicted by a federal grand jury on serious charges. Lahey is accused of possessing two firearm silencers not registered to him, receiving seven firearms while being an unlawful user of controlled substances, and making false statements in connection with the purchase of three firearms.
According to the indictment, Lahey stole two silencers from a licensed firearm dealer in Lawrenceville on February 6, 2013. He was later identified as the individual responsible for the theft after being arrested for shoplifting at a Wal-Mart in Snellville on February 9, 2012.
Lahey resisted arrest during the shoplifting incident and dropped a loaded handgun. He was released on bond on February 10, 2012. However, the Snellville police were able to identify Lahey to the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives as the individual who stole the silencers.
On February 25, 2013, officers and agents from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives and the Gwinnett County Police Department executed a search warrant at Lahey’s residence. During the search, they found one of the stolen silencers attached to a .22 caliber pistol and multiple firearms in Lahey’s possession, including marijuana, bongs, drug pipes, and other drug paraphernalia.
Lahey’s indictment includes seven counts, including possession of a firearm silencer not registered to him, possession of seven firearms by an unlawful user of controlled substances, receipt of three firearms while being an unlawful user of controlled substances, and making false statements in connection with the purchase of three firearms.
Each of the charges carries a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison and a fine of up to $250,000. Lahey is scheduled to be arraigned on the superseding indictment on May 30, 2013. He was previously detained without bond after his arrest on a federal complaint on March 1, 2013.
