Amer Taisir Zghailat Qaralleh, a 42-year-old dual U.S.-Jordanian citizen, was convicted of federal firearms and explosives charges in Springfield, Virginia, after deputies found several firearms and explosive devices in his residence during a writ of eviction on March 18, 2025. The deputies observed several firearms in plain view and secured four firearms, including a sawed-off shotgun. Qaralleh indicated there was another firearm in a backpack, which deputies located and found, along with four explosive devices.
The shotgun Qaralleh possessed was not registered in the National Firearms Registration and Transfer Record as required by law. The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives Washington Field Division investigated this case with assistance from the Fairfax County Sheriff’s Office.
Qaralleh is scheduled to be sentenced on October 6 and faces up to 10 years in prison for possession of an unregistered firearm and up to a year in prison for improper storage of explosive materials. The case is part of Operation Take Back America, a nationwide initiative that aims to repel the invasion of illegal immigration and protect communities from violent crime.
Assistant U.S. Attorneys Nicholas A. Durham and Robert Strange are prosecuting the case. The conviction is a significant win for law enforcement in their efforts to curb the proliferation of illegal firearms and explosives in the community.
