A house fire in Lexington’s Orleans Circle neighborhood turned up the heat on a convicted felon, Jonathan Huff, 37. On Monday, a federal criminal complaint was filed against him for illegal possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
Lexington Police Department officers, emergency personnel, and federal agents rushed to the scene of the fire, where they determined Huff was a resident and involved in suspicious activity. A search warrant was obtained for his residence and vehicle, revealing two firearms inside.
Huff, a convicted felon from Indiana, is prohibited from possessing firearms. He admitted to possessing the guns, which sealed his fate.
The Lexington Police Department’s Hazardous Devices Unit, Lexington Fire Department Arson Investigators, FBI, and ATF are still investigating the cause of the fire.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office and law enforcement partners are quick to credit their rapid intervention in keeping the public safe.
