GREENSBORO, N.C. – The grimy halls of High Point Regional Hospital were recently hit with a shockwave as KIMBERLY RUSSELL HOBSON, 46, from Kernersville, pleaded guilty in federal court to felony charges of wire fraud, bank fraud, and aggravated identity theft.
Hobson, who had spent over two decades in the hospital’s accounting and finance department, faces a staggering sentence for her crimes. The feds allege she embezzled more than $3 million from the hospital, with the final amount of loss to be determined by the court at sentencing.
This isn’t just about numbers; it’s about trust betrayed. Hobson’s guilty plea spells a potential thirty-two years behind bars. But that’s not all—she’ll also have to make restitution to High Point Regional Hospital for the heist that robbed it of millions.
The case has been a joint effort by several law enforcement agencies, including the Department of Treasury – Office of Inspector General, United States Secret Service, Guilford County Sheriff’s Department, and High Point Police Department. Assistant United States Attorneys Robert M. Hamilton, Lynne P. Klauer, and Anand P. Ramaswamy are prosecuting this white-collar crime.
Sentencing is scheduled for May 2, 2018, in Winston-Salem, where justice will finally be served on Hobson’s notorious fraud.
This case serves as a stark reminder of the corruption that can fester within the corridors of healthcare and the lengths some individuals will go to for personal gain. Stay tuned to Grimy Times for more details on this case as it unfolds.
