Omaha Man Jailed for 70 Months After Gun Stash
A 21-year-old Omaha man is behind bars after being caught with a loaded handgun, a .40 caliber Smith & Wesson, strapped to his ankle.
Kyrell Wells, a convicted felon from a tampering with witness charge in November 2021, received a 70-month prison sentence from Chief United States District Judge Robert F. Rossiter Jr. on November 14, 2023.
The sentencing follows an arrest on August 11, 2022, when Omaha Police gang officers observed Wells enter a Phillips 66 on 59th and Sorensen Parkway. Officers took Wells to the ground after he attempted to run, and a handgun fell from his waistband to his ankle.
The loaded firearm was a key factor in the case against Wells, who is prohibited from possessing a weapon due to his felony record.
Wells will serve 70 months in prison, with no parole available in the federal system. Upon release, he will begin a 3-year term of supervised release.
