La Crosse Felon Gets 5-Year Sentence for Gun Possession

La Crosse, WI – In a grim reminder of the city’s struggle with gun violence, Jayvon E. Jones-Shields, 24, has been sentenced to five years in federal prison for非法 Possessing a firearm. The United States Attorney for the Western District of Wisconsin, Timothy M. O’Shea, announced the sentence today.

Jones-Shields pleaded guilty on March 19, 2024, to charges stemming from an October 18, 2023 incident where he was found with a loaded .22 caliber revolver and drugs during an arrest for an active warrant.

The revolver, oxycodone pills, counterfeit prescription pills containing fentanyl, and cocaine were all recovered from Jones-Shields’ shoulder bag. His ability to legally possess firearms had been revoked due to multiple felony convictions in Olmsted County, Minnesota.

This case is a part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), the Justice Department’s initiative aimed at reducing violent crime through state and federal coordination. Assistant U.S. Attorney William M. Levins was responsible for prosecuting the case.

The investigation was conducted by the La Crosse Police Department and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, reflecting a collaborative effort to tackle gun-related crimes.

Jones-Shields now faces a lengthy sentence behind bars, sending a stern message about the consequences of illegal firearm possession for felons.
