Indianapolis, IN – In a grim turn of justice, 27-year-old LaDarien McGee has been sentenced to five years in federal prison, followed by three years of supervised release, for possession of fentanyl and cocaine with intent to distribute, while illegally armed.
The saga began on January 9, 2024, when the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) executed a state search warrant at a gas station. Officers chased McGee after he fled from them, only to apprehend him and discover a bag of fentanyl pills totaling approximately 3.2 grams in his possession.
But the discovery of weapons was just as stunning. A Glock handgun was seized from McGee’s vehicle at the scene. During a subsequent search of McGee’s residence, law enforcement found a shoebox filled with 39.04 grams of fentanyl pills, cocaine residue on a digital scale, and 13.4 grams of cocaine. The cache also included multiple firearms: two Smith & Wesson revolvers, a Kel-Tec AR variant pistol, and another .380 caliber Smith & Wesson handgun.
McGee’s previous felony conviction for trafficking with an inmate in Hendricks County bars him from legal firearm possession. “Fentanyl is devastating our communities at an unprecedented rate,” said Zachary A. Myers, U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Indiana. “Illegally armed fentanyl dealers pose an even greater danger to the public.”
Investigations by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) and IMPD led to McGee’s sentence, which was imposed by U.S. District Judge Jane Magnus-Stinson. Assistant U.S. Attorney Bradley A. Blackington prosecuted the case.
