A former Laguna Pueblo resident has been sentenced to 36 months in prison for his role in a federal sexual abuse conviction, the Grimy Times has learned.
Benjamin Shiosee, 38, was sentenced in federal court in Albuquerque this morning to 36 months in prison followed by 25 years of supervised release. He will also be required to register as a sex offender after he completes his prison sentence.
Shiosee, a former certified nursing assistant, was arrested on March 1, 2016, on a criminal complaint alleging that he sexually abused a patient on Sept. 4, 2015, on the Laguna Pueblo in Cibola County, N.M.
According to court documents, Shiosee pled guilty to an information charging him with abusive sexual contact. In entering the guilty plea, Shiosee admitted that on Sept. 4, 2015, he sexually abused the victim within the Laguna Pueblo.
The case was investigated by the Albuquerque office of the FBI and the Laguna Pueblo Tribal Police Department. Assistant U.S. Attorney Joseph Spindle prosecuted the case.
Shiosee’s conviction and sentencing serves as a stark reminder of the importance of holding individuals accountable for their actions, particularly in cases involving vulnerable populations.
