A disturbing case of child exploitation has come to light in New York, with a Louisiana man pleaded guilty to possession of child pornography.
According to authorities, 35-year-old John K. Carrillo of Lake Charles, Louisiana, pleaded guilty to the charge in a Buffalo federal court on [undisclosed date].
The maximum penalty for the crime is 20 years in prison and a fine of $250,000.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Aaron J. Mango stated that on November 11, 2014, Carrillo possessed images and videos of child pornography stored on a laptop computer, which he obtained over the internet.
An undercover FBI agent downloaded 69 images and seven videos of child pornography directly from a username belonging to the defendant on the peer-to-peer sharing program.
Carrillo was found to be using a peer-to-peer network to distribute child pornography again on February 27, 2015, while living in Lake Charles, Louisiana. Some of the images and videos depicted violence involving minors less than 12 years old.
The plea is the culmination of an investigation by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, under the direction of Special Agent in Charge, Adam Cohen.
Sentencing is scheduled for June 13, 2016, at 12:30 p.m. before Judge Richard J. Arcara.
