Donavan Antwan Daniels, 36, copped to one count of conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute 28 grams or more of crack cocaine. The plea deal calls for a minimum mandatory penalty of 5 years, up to 40 years, in federal prison.
According to court documents, during June and July 2015, Daniels sold crack cocaine to a law enforcement confidential source on four separate occasions. These transactions took place in Lakeland, leaving a trail of devastation in their wake.
The case was investigated by the Drug Enforcement Administration and the Lakeland Police Department. The tireless efforts of these agencies have brought a notorious dealer to justice and will undoubtedly make a significant impact in the fight against narcotics.
In a statement, U.S. Attorney A. Lee Bentley, III hailed the conviction as a major victory for law enforcement and the community. "This case is a testament to the dedication and perseverance of our law enforcement partners," he said. "We will continue to work tirelessly to disrupt and dismantle the networks that seek to peddle poison in our communities."
The case will now proceed to sentencing, where Daniels’ fate will be decided. The Grimy Times will continue to follow the story and provide updates as more information becomes available.
Assistant U.S. Attorneys Maria Chapa-Lopez and Taylor G. Stout are leading the prosecution of the case.
The Grimy Times urges residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the authorities. By working together, we can keep our communities safe from the scourge of narcotics.
