Lance Edward Gloor, Marijuana Trafficking, Washington 2016

Lance Edward Gloor, a south Puget Sound area resident, has been convicted of running a string of marijuana ‘dispensaries’ in Washington state. The 37-year-old’s scheme was uncovered by law enforcement, who found that the dispensaries were for-profit businesses generating millions of dollars in gross revenues, despite claiming to be non-profit medical marijuana dispensaries.

The investigation, which began as early as 2010, revealed that Gloor and his business associate were the subjects of multiple law enforcement investigations. In 2010, local law enforcement officers executed a search warrant at Gloor’s home, where they discovered over 70 marijuana plants and a firearm.

Gloor and his associate opened four marijuana ‘dispensaries’ in the fall of 2010, including Tacoma Cross, Lacey Cross, Seattle Cross, and KPN Cross on the Kitsap Peninsula. However, a joint state and federal law enforcement investigation found that these locations were operating illegally, and search warrants were served in 2011.

Gloor claimed to be getting out of the marijuana business, but further investigation revealed that he was still operating two of the four dispensaries in 2013. He was indicted with two co-conspirators in November 2013, and his co-conspirators have since entered guilty pleas and are awaiting sentencing.

The case was investigated by the Thurston Narcotic Task Force (TNT) and the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA). Assistant United States Attorneys Vince Lombardi and Marci Ellsworth are prosecuting Gloor.

Gloor faces a mandatory minimum 5 years to 40 years in prison when sentenced by U.S. District Judge Ronald B. Leighton on April 15, 2016.

Despite the convictions, it remains to be seen how Gloor’s case will impact the marijuana industry in Washington state. The decision highlights the importance of strict regulations and enforcement in the industry, and underscores the need for greater transparency and accountability.
