St. Louis Man Sentenced to 84 Months in Federal Prison

A St. Louis man has been sentenced to 84 months in federal prison for his role in a fentanyl trafficking operation.

Landon Whitfield, 26, of St. Louis, Missouri, appeared before United States District Court Judge Ronnie L. White on today’s date and was sentenced for his crimes.

Whitfield previously pleaded guilty to one count of possession with intent to distribute fentanyl and one count of possession of a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime.

The charges against Whitfield stem from a 2019 incident in which he fled from police officers after they attempted to conduct a traffic stop on his vehicle. The vehicle had previously fled from the officers on several occasions, and this time, Whitfield caused a substantial risk of death or serious bodily injury as he drove away.

Police officers eventually deployed spike strips to disable the vehicle, but Whitfield continued to flee on foot while armed with an AR-15-type firearm. He was apprehended after a struggle in an alley, during which he raised his firearm at the officers. One officer fired a shot in response, and Whitfield dropped his firearm and a green bag he had been carrying.

Inside the green bag, police found 345 capsules of fentanyl weighing approximately 37 grams. The firearm Whitfield possessed was a Matrix Aerospace M556-SC semi-automatic pistol, loaded with 22 rounds of ammunition in an extended magazine.

This case was investigated by the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department.

Whitfield’s sentence reflects the severity of his crimes, and it serves as a warning to others who would engage in similar activities. The St. Louis community can rest a little easier knowing that this individual will be held accountable for his actions.
