LEXINGTON, Ky. – In a resounding victory against child exploitation, Larry Coffman, a 42-year-old Harrodsburg resident, was sentenced on Thursday by U.S. District Judge Karen Caldwell to a staggering 40 years in federal prison for sex trafficking minors. The sentence is the maximum allowable under federal law.
Coffman’s conviction stems from a heinous act committed in February 2023, where he solicited and enticed two underage victims into engaging in sexual acts in exchange for compensation. At the time of the offenses, Coffman had already been convicted of a previous sex offense, making him a registered sex offender.
Under federal mandates, Coffman is required to serve 85 percent of his sentence before becoming eligible for release. His parole will be indefinitely supervised by the U.S. Probation Office following his prison term.
The investigation and prosecution were a collaborative effort between the Department of Homeland Security’s HSI, Harrodsburg Police Department, and Madison County Sheriff’s Office. Assistant U.S. Attorney Erin Roth represented the U.S. Attorney’s Office in this pivotal case.
This sentencing is part of Project Safe Childhood, an initiative launched by the Department of Justice in 2006 to combat child sexual exploitation and abuse. The program leverages federal, state, and local resources to identify, apprehend, and prosecute those who exploit children online and rescue victims.
