McAlester Man Pleads Guilty to Illegally Possessing Firearms

On February 1, 2024, Larry Douglas Martin, a 54-year-old resident of McAlester, Oklahoma, pleaded guilty to one count of Felon in Possession of Firearm in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Oklahoma.

Martin was charged with possessing a semi-automatic rifle and a semi-automatic pistol after having previously been convicted of a crime punishable by imprisonment for a term exceeding one year.

The charge arose from an investigation by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, and the Pittsburg County Sheriff’s Office.

According to the United States Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Oklahoma, Martin faces up to 15 years in prison and a $250,000 fine. A U.S. District Court Judge will determine the sentence to be imposed after considering the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and other statutory factors.

Martin will remain in the custody of the United States Marshals Service pending sentencing. Special Assistant U.S. Attorney Olivia Staubus represented the United States.
