PITTSBURGH, PA – In a grim turn of justice, Larry Malloy, 26, was today sentenced to 10 years (120 months) in federal prison for his role in the distribution of drugs that tragically led to the death of T.C. in April 2016.
United States Attorney Scott W. Brady announced the sentence, which also mandates three years of supervised release following Malloy’s prison term. The defendant had previously pleaded guilty, accepting full responsibility for causing T.C.’s fatal overdose and acknowledging the distribution of at least 100 grams of heroin and four grams of fentanyl.
United States District Judge Mark R. Hornak delivered the sentence, also ordering Malloy to pay $7,917.00 in restitution to T.C.’s family. The judge’s decision was a stark reminder of the deadly consequences associated with drug trafficking.
Assistant United States Attorney Craig W. Haller led the prosecution on behalf of the United States in this case. The investigation that led to Malloy’s conviction and sentencing was a collaborative effort, involving the Allegheny County Police Department, the Verona Police Department, the Pennsylvania Attorney General’s Office, and the Allegheny County Medical Examiner’s Office.
Malloy’s sentence sends a stern message about the serious nature of drug trafficking and its devastating impact on communities. The grim reality of drug-related deaths continues to plague Pittsburgh and underscores the need for effective law enforcement efforts to combat the epidemic.
