Latin Kings Gang Member Gets 108 Months in Prison
HAMMOND, IN – Jorge Esqueda, 24, of East Chicago, Indiana, was sentenced to 108 months in prison after pleading guilty to racketeering conspiracy, announced U.S. Attorney Kirsch. Esqueda’s role in the Latin Kings Street Gang led to his downfall.
According to documents in the case, Esqueda entered a guilty plea for conspiracy to participate in racketeering activity. He admitted that, as a member of the Latin Kings, he was a manager or supervisor of criminal activity, responsible for 3.5 to 5 kilograms of cocaine, and possessed a firearm in connection with his offense.
As part of his plea agreement, Esqueda acknowledged his position within the gang and the severity of his crimes. The racketeering conspiracy charges carry significant penalties, and Esqueda’s sentence reflects the seriousness of his involvement.
Law enforcement agencies played a crucial role in the investigation and prosecution of Esqueda. The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, the East Chicago Police Department, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Gary Police Department, the Hammond Police Department, the Lake County, Indiana, Sheriff’s Department, and Lake County High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area officers and agents all contributed to the case.
The Lake County Prosecutor’s Office provided assistance in the prosecution of Esqueda, who was represented by Assistant U.S. Attorneys David J. Nozick and Dean Lanter of the Northern District of Indiana, along with Joseph Cooley, a Trial Attorney from the Northern District of Indiana.
The Latin Kings case is a significant blow to the gang, which has been involved in various crimes, including narcotics trafficking and violent offenses. The sentencing of Esqueda sends a strong message that those involved in organized crime will face severe consequences.
