Two Omaha men, Latjor Gony and Jal Thong, were sentenced to 100 months in prison for their roles in a string of pharmacy burglaries in central Nebraska towns.
The burglaries, which took place between October 23, 2021, and December 22, 2021, targeted pharmacies in Ravenna, Holdrege, Minden, Alma, and Loup City. During each burglary, one to three individuals, dressed head to toe in hoodies, sweatpants, gloves, and masks, broke through the front door, entered the pharmacy, stole narcotics, and then left within a few minutes.
The stolen narcotics included hydrocodone, oxycontin, oxycodone HCL, oxycodone acetaminophen, Adderall, hydromorphone, and promethazine syrup. A distribution quantity of narcotics was stolen during the course of these burglaries.
Gony and Thong were identified as the perpetrators through evidence gathered by law enforcement agencies, including phone records and cell tower data. Investigators found that Gony and Thong communicated with one another and with customers about the sale and distribution of controlled substances taken from the pharmacies.
Additionally, data from the burglars’ iCloud, cell phone, and social media accounts included photos and videos of controlled substances taken from the pharmacies. Investigators also found images of Gony possessing firearms, including one that was retrieved by Omaha Police officers during a traffic stop.
Gony’s sentence was enhanced because he had a prior conviction for drug distribution in Nebraska. He was also prohibited from possessing firearms due to his felony convictions. As a result, his sentence included an additional penalty for violating this prohibition.
