Laurel Man Sentenced to 13 Years for Meth Conspiracy
A Laurel man has been sentenced to over 13 years in federal prison for his role in a methamphetamine conspiracy.
U.S. District Judge Sul Ozerden, Jr. handed down the sentence to Jack Benny Hales, 30, for his involvement in the distribution of the highly addictive and deadly drug.
According to court documents, on January 23, 2018, Hales delivered over 50 grams of 94% pure methamphetamine to a cooperating source in Gulfport, Mississippi. The methamphetamine was found in a bag in Hales’s car after he was arrested by Homeland Security Investigations agents who had learned of his location.
The case was investigated by Homeland Security Investigations and the Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics. Assistant U.S. Attorney Kathlyn R. Van Buskirk prosecuted the case.
Hales was also ordered to pay a $5,000 fine as part of his sentence. He will serve 157 months in federal prison followed by 5 years of supervised release.
