Lawrence Aquilla Colby, IV Sentenced to 50 Years for Child Sexual Abuse, Baltimore MD, 2023
A Cecil County man has been sentenced to 50 years in federal prison for his role in the repeated sexual abuse of a child, prosecutors announced today. Lawrence Aquilla Colby, IV, also known as “Buddy,” was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Richard D. Bennett yesterday for his participation in a conspiracy to sexually abuse a child from the age of approximately four months to two years old.
According to court documents, Colby, 35, of Elkton, Maryland, admitted to sexually abusing the child, starting at the time the victim was approximately four months of age through at least October 2021, when the victim was two years old. He also produced videos and images of the abuse, and received files documenting the sexual abuse of the child, which were sent to him by his co-conspirator, Summer McCroskey.
Colby’s co-defendant, Summer McCroskey, age 25, also of Elkton, was sentenced to 80 years in federal prison on May 18, 2023, for her role in the conspiracy. The case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched in May 2006 to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse.
“This sentencing sends a clear message that those who engage in the heinous crime of child sex abuse will be held accountable,” said United States Attorney Erek L. Barron. “I commend the FBI, the Cecil County State’s Attorney’s Office and the Cecil County Sheriff’s Office for their tireless efforts in investigating and prosecuting this case.”
Colby’s sentence also includes lifetime supervised release. The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorneys Paul E. Budlow and Colleen E. McGuinn.
