A Dominican national with a history of serious crimes has been sentenced to 18 months in prison for sneaking back into the United States after being deported. Jose Alberto Tejeda Turbi, 46, was caught after he was indicted by a federal grand jury in January 2026 for one count of unlawful reentry of a deported alien.

Turbi was previously convicted of heroin distribution and conspiracy in 2015 and deported in 2020. He was also sentenced to two years in prison in 2024 for assault and battery in Lawrence District Court.

According to court documents, Turbi unlawfully reentered the US sometime after his deportation. He was caught and pleaded guilty to the charges in March 2026. U.S. District Court Judge Allison D. Burroughs handed down the sentence, which will be followed by two years of supervised release. Turbi is subject to deportation upon completion of his sentence.
