Terrance Kelly, 37, Sentenced to 21 Months for Illegal Firearm Possession in Washington DC
A previously convicted felon, Terrance Kelly, was sentenced to 21 months in prison for carrying a firearm while on supervised probation, announced U.S. Attorney Jeanine Ferris Pirro. Kelly, 37, was found guilty of unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition by a felon after voluntarily handing a loaded pistol to authorities during an encounter with Special Police Officers on August 28, 2025.
According to court documents, Kelly had previously been convicted eight times for various offenses between 2006 and 2025, including driving under the influence, assault, and unlawful possession of a firearm. He was on supervised probation for a felony when he was arrested with the pistol in his satchel. The loaded Glock 23 .40 caliber pistol with a 22-cartridge magazine was found in the satchel.
Kelly pleaded guilty to the charges on December 4, 2025. U.S. District Judge Dabney L. Friedrich also ordered Kelly to serve three years of supervised release after his prison term. This case was investigated by the Metropolitan Police Department and prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Kate Naseef.
