Fentanyl Trafficking Kingpin Brought Down in Massachusetts
Fredis Manuel Guerrero Guzman, a 28-year-old Lawrence man, has been sentenced to 21 months in prison for his role in a massive fentanyl trafficking conspiracy that spanned across several Massachusetts cities.
According to court documents, Guzman was part of a three-person crew that conspired to distribute and possess with intent to distribute over 400 grams of fentanyl and 100 grams of a fentanyl analogue between March and August 2022.
The crew, which included Melvin Antonio Perez Medina and Fraily Rodriguez Morillo, met with a cooperating witness in March 2022 to negotiate future drug deals, including the price for fentanyl and cocaine. Guzman and Morillo then distributed 50 grams of fentanyl to the cooperating witness in April 2022.
In July 2022, Morillo and Perez Medina distributed nearly 130 grams of fentanyl to a cooperating witness on one occasion and over 560 grams of a fentanyl and fentanyl analogue mixture on another. Perez Medina was arrested in August 2022 with nearly two kilograms of a mixture containing fentanyl and a fentanyl analogue hidden inside a cereal box.
Guzman pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to distribute and to possess with intent to distribute 400 grams or more of fentanyl and 100 grams or more of a fentanyl analogue, as well as distribution and possession with intent to distribute 40 grams or more of fentanyl and aiding and abetting.
On January 18, 2024, Perez Medina was sentenced to 64 months in prison and three years of supervised release. Morillo pleaded guilty on February 12, 2024, and is scheduled to be sentenced on May 31, 2024.
The case was part of an Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (OCDETF) operation, which aims to disrupt and dismantle high-level criminal organizations that threaten the United States.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Alathea Porter prosecuted the case, which was made possible by the efforts of the Massachusetts Department of Correction, the Norfolk County Sheriff’s Office, and several local police departments.
