BOSTON – In a chilling twist of justice, Jakob Nieves, also known as Dakota, has pleaded guilty to sexually exploiting two children under the age of four. The 20-year-old Lawrence resident’s dark descent into pedophilia reached its nadir when he admitted to distributing and possessing child pornography.
Nieves faces a minimum sentence of 15 years to a maximum of 30 years in prison for sexual exploitation of children, as well as a mandatory minimum of five years for distribution of child pornography. The possession charge carries up to 20 years behind bars. Sentencing is scheduled for December 16, 2020.
The investigation began when Nieves communicated with an undercover agent through Kik messenger, sharing images and videos depicting his sexual abuse of a child. Following a search warrant executed at his home on August 14, 2019, law enforcement uncovered thousands of child pornography images and videos, including those featuring the two children he exploited.
Project Safe Childhood, a DOJ initiative aimed at protecting children from exploitation, led to Nieves’ arrest and subsequent charges. Assistant U.S. Attorney Anne Paruti is prosecuting this case with the Boston Field Division of the FBI.
The severity of these charges underscores the grim realities of cybercrime and child abuse. The Department of Justice’s Project Safe Childhood continues its efforts to locate, apprehend, and prosecute individuals like Nieves who prey on the innocence of children.
