Lechner Brothers Sentenced for Employing Unauthorized Aliens
Two brothers, Geoffrey Lechner, 52, of Brighton, N.Y., and Douglas Lechner, 51, of Rochester, N.Y., have been fined $3,000 each by U.S. Magistrate Judge Marian W. Payson. The brothers, who are the principal owners of Clover Lawn Care, were convicted of employing two or more unauthorized aliens to work at the lawn care and landscaping company. Despite knowing they were not authorized to work in the United States, the defendants hired the aliens, which led to an investigation by law enforcement in June 2012.
The investigation was sparked by an accident involving a Clover Lawn Care vehicle driven by four employees in Brighton, N.Y. U.S. Attorney William J. Hochul, Jr. announced the sentencing, stating that the brothers knowingly violated immigration laws by hiring unauthorized workers. Assistant U.S. Attorney Marisa J. Miller handled the case and highlighted the seriousness of the crime.
Clover Lawn Care, owned by the Lechner brothers, hired unauthorized aliens despite knowing they were not authorized to work in the United States. The matter came to the attention of law enforcement following an accident involving a Clover Lawn Care vehicle driven by four employees in Brighton, N.Y. in June 2012.
The sentencing is the culmination of an investigation on the part of Special Agents of the Immigration and Customs Enforcement, Homeland Security Investigations, under the direction of Special Agent in Charge James C. Spero, Agents of the United States Border Patrol under the direction of Assistant Patrol Agent in Charge Michael Werthman, and Officers of the Brighton Police Department, under the direction of Chief Mark T. Henderson.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Marisa J. Miller stated that the Lechner brothers knowingly employed unauthorized aliens, which is a serious crime. The investigation was a joint effort between various law enforcement agencies, highlighting the importance of cooperation in enforcing immigration laws.
