Secret Service Officer Caught in Online Child Predator Sting
A U.S. Secret Service officer, Lee Robert Moore, has pleaded guilty to enticement of a minor and attempting to send obscene images to a minor, announced U.S. Attorney Wifredo A. Ferrer of the Southern District of Florida and Acting Assistant Attorney General Kenneth A. Blanco of the Justice Department’s Criminal Division.
Maintenance worker for the U.S. Secret Service-Uniformed Division, Moore was arrested on Nov. 9, 2015, and has been in custody ever since. He was terminated from his position after his arrest. The 38-year-old man from Church Hill, Maryland, admitted to maintaining a profile on the social media application ‘Meet24’ to exchange digital images with a 14-year-old girl.
Moore engaged in online chats with the undercover officers posing as a female minor over a two-month period, including while he was at work. Several of the online chats were sexual in nature, and he sent pictures of himself, including one sexually explicit image.
Investigations revealed that Moore had communicated with a minor in Florida, sending sexually explicit images of himself and asking her to send explicit photos of herself. He engaged in similar behavior with a 14-year-old girl in Texas and a 17-year-old girl in Missouri.
U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Homeland Security Investigations and the Delaware Child Predator Task Force investigated the case. Assistant U.S. Attorney Corey Steinberg of the Southern District of Florida and Trial Attorney Austin M. Berry of the Criminal Division’s Child Exploitation and Obscenity Section are prosecuting the case.
This case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse, launched in May 2006 by the federal government. Moore could face up to life in prison for his crimes.
