Ivan J. Satterfield, Fentanyl and Firearms Trafficking, Kentucky 2022

A 30-year-old Lexington man, Ivan J. Satterfield, has been sentenced to 72 months in prison for his role in a fentanyl and firearms trafficking operation in the Bluegrass State.

According to the U.S. Department of Justice, Satterfield was sentenced on Wednesday by U.S. District Judge Gregory Van Tatenhove for five counts of possession of firearms by a prohibited person, two counts of distribution of fentanyl, and one count of distribution of fluorofentanyl.

Between April 14 and October 31, 2022, law enforcement utilized confidential informants to make multiple firearm and controlled substance purchases from Satterfield, which included purchases of fentanyl, cocaine, and fluorofentanyl, as well as the purchase of six firearms.

Despite knowing he had prior felony convictions, Satterfield continued to possess and sell firearms, which is a federal offense. In 2016, he was convicted of receiving stolen property under $10,000 in Fayette Circuit Court, and in 2013, he was convicted of theft by unlawful taking under $10,000 in Nelson Circuit Court.

Under federal law, Satterfield must serve 85 percent of his prison sentence, which translates to approximately 6.12 years. Upon his release from prison, he will be under the supervision of the U.S. Probation Office for three years.

The investigation was a joint effort between the ATF and the Kentucky State Police. Assistant U.S. Attorney Paco Villalobos is prosecuting the case on behalf of the United States. The sentencing was announced by U.S. Attorney Carlton S. Shier, IV, Special Agent in Charge Shawn Morrow, and Kentucky State Police Commissioner Phillip J. Burnett.
