Lexington Man Sentenced to 108 Months for Valerylfentanyl Trafficking
A Lexington man has been sentenced to 108 months in prison for his role in a valerylfentanyl trafficking operation. Michael Deshawn Glover, 33, was convicted of possession with intent to distribute 10 grams or more of a substance containing valerylfentanyl.
According to court documents, Glover was arrested on July 25, 2018, after coming into contact with officers due to an outstanding warrant. During the intake process at the detention facility, officers discovered that Glover was concealing 58 grams of valerylfentanyl in his underwear.
Glover admitted that he planned to sell the substance to other persons throughout the Eastern District of Kentucky. He pleaded guilty in June 2019 and was subsequently sentenced to 108 months in prison.
Under federal law, Glover must serve 85 percent of his prison sentence. Upon his release, Glover will be under the supervision of the U.S. Probation Office for five years.
The investigation was conducted by the Drug Enforcement Administration and the Lexington Police Department. The United States was represented by Assistant U.S. Attorney David Kiebler.
The sentencing was announced by Robert M. Duncan, Jr., United States Attorney for the Eastern District of Kentucky; Brett R. Pritts, Acting Special Agent in Charge for the Drug Enforcement Administration, Louisville Field Office; and Chief Lawrence Weathers, Lexington Police Department.
The case marks another significant blow to the heroin and fentanyl epidemic plaguing our nation. As the Grimy Times continues to investigate the depths of this crisis, one thing remains clear: those who peddle poison will be held accountable.
