Lexington Woman Sentenced 175 Months for Trafficking Methamphetamine and Fentanyl
A Lexington woman has been sentenced to 175 months in prison for trafficking methamphetamine and fentanyl.
Stacey R. Smith, 42, of Lexington, Ky, was sentenced on Tuesday by U.S. District Judge Robert Wier for her role in a conspiracy to distribute 500 grams of a mixture containing methamphetamine and 400 grams of a mixture containing fentanyl.
According to her plea agreement, Smith conspired with others to distribute the drugs from January 2021 to March 2022. She obtained pound quantities of methamphetamine and ounce quantities of what she believed to be heroin, which laboratory testing confirmed was actually fentanyl.
Smith then sold the drugs to several others, including her co-defendant, Shane Brock, 62, of London. Brock was previously sentenced to 97 months in prison, followed by three years of supervised release for his role in the conspiracy.
Under federal law, Smith must serve 85 percent of her prison sentence. Upon her release from prison, she will be under the supervision of the U.S. Probation Office for five years.
Carlton S. Shier, IV, United States Attorney for the Eastern District of Kentucky; Erek Davodowich, Acting Special Agent in Charge of the DEA Louisville Field Division; and Sheriff John Root, Laurel County Sheriff’s Office, jointly announced the sentence.
The investigation was conducted by the DEA and Laurel County Sheriff’s Office. Assistant U.S. Attorney Sam Dotson prosecuted the case on behalf of the United States.
Smith’s sentence is a harsh reminder of the severe consequences of trafficking in Kentucky. The Eastern District of Kentucky will continue to work tirelessly to combat the opioid epidemic and bring those responsible to justice.
