Liban Dirie, Cocaine Trafficking Conspiracy, Pennsylvania 2015

In a move to crack down on narcotics, a Pittsburgh man has been sentenced to 18 months in prison for his role in a cocaine trafficking conspiracy, announced United States Attorney David J. Hickton. Liban Dirie, 47, of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, was handed down the sentence by United States District Judge Mark R. Hornak.

According to information in the court’s possession, Dirie conspired with others to distribute and possess with intent to distribute 500 grams or more of a mixture and substance containing a detectable amount of cocaine from January 2014 to February 11, 2015, in the Western District of Pennsylvania and elsewhere.

Assistant United States Attorney Katherine A. King prosecuted this case on behalf of the government. The investigation was led by the Pennsylvania State Police, the Allegheny County District Attorney’s Narcotics Enforcement Team (DANET), and a task force comprised of multiple police departments.

The task force, led by the Drug Enforcement Administration, also consisted of police officers from the Pittsburgh Bureau of Police, the Baldwin Police Department, the Munhall Police Department, Scott Township Police Department, Allegheny County Police, the Pennsylvania State Police, the Duquesne Police Department, and the West Homestead Police Department.

The investigation and prosecution of Dirie were the result of a collaborative effort to combat narcotics trafficking in the region. Dirie’s sentencing serves as a reminder of the consequences of engaging in such activities.

As a result of the conviction, Dirie will serve 18 months in prison, followed by 4 years of supervised release. This sentence brings an end to a lengthy investigation and prosecution, and serves as a testament to the dedication of law enforcement agencies in the region.
