A U.S. Army Soldier’s Downfall
A 51-year-old active duty U.S. Army soldier has been sentenced to life in prison for the heinous crime of aggravated sexual assault of a minor.
According to the guilty plea hearings, Daniel Kemp Sr. of Cameron, North Carolina, forcibly raped a minor victim while employed by the U.S. Army.
However, Kemp’s wife, Shanynn Kemp, took it upon herself to intentionally harass and dissuade a witness from disclosing information about the sexual offense to law enforcement.
The investigation into the case was conducted by U.S. Army Criminal Investigation Command and the FBI.
This case is being prosecuted by Trial Attorney Kaylynn Foulon of the Criminal Division’s Child Exploitation and Obscenity Section (CEOS) and Assistant U.S. Attorney Charity Wilson of the U.S. Attorney’s Office in the Eastern District of North Carolina.
The case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse launched in May 2006 by the Department of Justice.
U.S. Attorney Robert J. Higdon Jr. of the Eastern District of North Carolina announced the sentencing, praising the efforts of the law enforcement agencies involved in the case.
