Lincoln Man Gets 7+ Years for Child Porn Cache
A 42-year-old former Lincoln man has been sentenced to over 7 years in prison for receiving child pornography. David J. Ellis, 42, was sentenced on June 5, 2024, in federal court in Lincoln for one count of receipt of child pornography.
Senior United States District Judge John M. Gerrard handed down the 87-month sentence, with no parole available in the federal system. Ellis will also begin a 7-year term of supervised release after his release from prison.
A federal judge ordered Ellis to pay $3,000 in restitution and $3,000 to a federal fund established to assist victims of child exploitation crimes. Ellis’ sentence is a result of an undercover operation involving peer-to-peer file sharing.
From September 8, 2022, until October 3, 2022, an undercover FBI agent monitored an IP address associated with Ellis, which was used to request and download multiple child pornography files. On December 14, 2022, a search warrant was executed on Ellis’ apartment in Lincoln, and numerous electronic devices were seized.
A review of Ellis’ devices revealed over 10,276 image files and 11 video files that depicted minors engaged in sexually explicit conduct. The investigation was part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched in May 2006 by the Department of Justice to combat child sexual exploitation and abuse.
This case was brought as part of a larger effort to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse. The Department of Justice is leading the charge, with the support of federal, state, and local resources.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation investigated the case, which was brought under the auspices of Project Safe Childhood. The initiative aims to locate, apprehend, and prosecute individuals who exploit children via the Internet, as well as identify and rescue victims.
