Felon Charged With Unlawfully Possessing a Firearm at Albany International Airport
A 32-year-old Albany man has been charged with illegally possessing a firearm after a loaded handgun was found on him at Albany International Airport last year.
Josef Jarvis, who has prior felony convictions for racketeering and weapons offenses, was attempting to pass through a security checkpoint at the airport on August 16, 2021, when the handgun was discovered.
The FBI’s Joint Terrorism Task Force, the Albany County Sheriff’s Office, and the Transportation Security Administration all assisted in the investigation, which was led by the FBI.
Jarvis is charged with one count of unlawful possession of a firearm, a crime that carries a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison, a fine of up to $250,000, and up to 3 years of post-imprisonment supervised release.
Jarvis was ordered detained by United States Magistrate Judge Christian F. Hummel after appearing in federal court today. The charges against Jarvis are merely accusations, and he is considered innocent until proven guilty.
The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Alexander Wentworth-Ping. Acting United States Attorney Antoinette T. Bacon, FBI Special Agent in Charge Janeen DiGuiseppi, and Albany County Sheriff Craig D. Apple, Sr. announced the charges today.
