Local Woman Guilty of Cocaine Trafficking
Bertha Horton, 55, a resident of Fairmont, West Virginia, has been found guilty of cocaine trafficking by a Marion County court.
Horton, also known as “Peaches,” was charged with selling cocaine in May 2014 near East Fairmont Junior High School in Marion County, West Virginia.
According to sources, the crime occurred within 1,000 feet of a protected location, which has contributed to the severity of the charges.
Horton has pleaded guilty to one count of “Distribution of Cocaine Base within 1,000 feet of a Protected Location,” which carries a sentence of between 1 and 40 years in prison and a fine of up to $2,000,000.
The actual sentence will be determined by the Federal Sentencing Guidelines, taking into account the seriousness of the offense and Horton’s prior criminal history, if any.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Zelda Wesley prosecuted the case on behalf of the government, with the Three Rivers Drug Task Force leading the investigation.
U.S. Magistrate Judge Michael John Aloi presided over the case.
The sentencing for Bertha Horton, also known as “Peaches,” is expected to be a significant blow to the community, given the severity of the charges and the potential consequences.
