BUFFALO, N.Y. – A grim reminder of the depths to which some will sink in the pursuit of child exploitation: Richard Greer, 58, from Lockport, NY, has been sentenced to a staggering 78 months in federal prison for his role in a global sex trafficking network. U.S. Attorney Michael DiGiacomo announced the sentence, which also includes 25 years of supervised release.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Douglas A. C. Penrose detailed how Greer used Skype to communicate with individuals from the Philippines, exchanging over 31,000 messages and nearly 3,100 calls between April 2019 and August 14, 2023. The conversations reportedly included discussions about live-streaming child pornography sales, with Greer paying for images of children engaged in sexual activities.
The investigation took a dark turn when federal agents executed a search warrant at Greer’s residence, uncovering electronic devices containing more than 4,400 images and 44 video files of child pornography. A separate review of a thumb drive revealed an additional 13,000 images and 900 videos, including disturbing depictions of violence and exploitation.
Greer’s sentence is a result of a thorough investigation led by Homeland Security Investigations, with Special Agent-in-Charge Erin Keegan at the helm. The verdict serves as a stark warning to those who dare to profit from the suffering of innocent children.
This case highlights the relentless efforts of law enforcement in combating sex trafficking and child exploitation, underlining the severity of such crimes and the lengths authorities will go to protect the most vulnerable.
