PORTLAND, Ore. – A former teacher at Stoller Middle School, 37-year-old Logan Storm, has been sentenced to eight years in prison after being convicted of possessing child pornography and failing to appear in court.
Storm will spend 84 months in prison for possessing child pornography and an additional 12 months for failing to appear in court the day after a federal jury convicted him in January. Upon release from prison, he will be subject to a 10-year term of supervised release with stringent conditions, including prohibitions on associating with minors and restrictions on his use of computers.
Storm was originally charged with a number of offenses in the Multnomah County Circuit Court, but the state charges were later dismissed in favor of a federal prosecution. He was convicted in federal court on January 29, 2013, after a five-day jury trial.
Storm fled the country the day after his conviction, but was later apprehended in Mexico City, Mexico. He initially denied his identity, but was eventually deported back to the United States and returned to Oregon, where he was detained on a new indictment for failure to appear and in the child pornography case.
U.S. District Judge Michael H. Simon sentenced Storm to 84 months in prison for possessing child pornography and 12 months for failing to appear in court. The judge commended the U.S. Marshals Service for locating and apprehending Storm after he fled to Mexico.
Storm’s case is a reminder of the serious nature of child pornography offenses, which result in perpetual harm to the victims and validate and normalize the sexual abuse of children. The victims, Judge Simon said, are ‘victimized over and over and over again’ when offenders trade in and possess images of their sexual torture.
