Schenectady Man Sentenced to 30 Years for Child Exploitation

A 40-year-old man from Schenectady, New York, has been sentenced to 30 years in federal prison for his repeated sexual exploitation of a child. Terence Wilson, a resident of Schenectady, was convicted of the heinous crime and has now been held accountable for his actions.

Wilson admitted to sexually exploiting a child from the age of 8 until the child was 15, creating approximately 50 videos depicting the abuse. The disturbing revelation has sparked outrage and concern within the community.

The case was investigated by the FBI and its Child Exploitation Task Force, which includes members of federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies, including the New York State Police.

Assistant United States Attorneys Michael D. Gadarian and Adrian LaRochelle prosecuted this case as part of Project Safe Childhood, a program launched by the U.S. Attorney’s offices and the Criminal Division’s Child Exploitation and Obscenity Section (CEOS).

Project Safe Childhood aims to marshal federal, state, and local resources to better locate, apprehend, and prosecute individuals who exploit children via the Internet, as well as to identify and rescue victims.

Chief United States District Judge Brenda K. Sannes also sentenced Wilson to serve a life term of supervised release to begin after Wilson is released from prison. Wilson will also be required to register as a sex offender upon his release from prison.

The sentence handed down to Wilson is a stark reminder of the severe consequences of child exploitation, and the importance of continued efforts to prevent and prosecute these heinous crimes.
