Lee Robertson, Conspiracy to Distribute Oxycodone, Texas 2023

DALLAS — In a stark reminder of the opioid epidemic’s reach, Lee Robertson, 33, and Tasmin Stewart, a/k/a “Taz,” 30, have been locked away for their roles in a sinister prescription drug ring. Sentenced by U.S. District Judge Sidney A. Fitzwater, Robertson received 84 months for conspiracy to distribute Oxycodone, while Stewart was handed 27 months for unlawful use of a communication device.

The duo’s odyssey into the depths of organized crime began with an alleged scheme that ran from May 2013 through July 2014, where they illicitly obtained pain medications like oxycodone and hydrocodone. They exploited vulnerable individuals, including homeless or those of limited means, who posed as patients to obtain prescriptions at medical clinics such as the McAllen Medical Clinic in Dallas.

Robertson, as evidenced by plea documents, sought 30mg Oxycodone pills for distribution on October 21, 2013. Stewart was caught red-handed arranging a meet-up with a courier carrying the deadly drugs. His scheme involved purchasing large quantities of opioids at $16.00 per pill from supplier Cornelius Robinson.

The investigation was a collaborative effort by multiple agencies, including the Drug Enforcement Administration and the Internal Revenue Service Criminal Investigation. They were supported by state and local law enforcement agencies, such as the Texas Department of Public Safety and the Grand Prairie Police Department. Assistant U.S. Attorney Mary Walters led the prosecution.

This sentence comes as a stern warning against the dangerous allure of prescription drug rings. The harsh sentences imposed on Robertson and Stewart underscore the federal government’s commitment to cracking down on opioid trafficking that plagues our communities.
