Calvin Joel Polk, 50, of Coleman, Texas, was meted out a 71-month federal prison sentence by Senior U.S. District Judge Sam R. Cummings after pleading guilty to serious charges involving methamphetamine and firearms.

Polk’s conviction stems from an incident on June 20, 2016, when officers from the Coleman Police Department were dispatched to a domestic disturbance. Upon arrival, they discovered a clear plastic bag with suspected methamphetamine in plain sight. Polk was subsequently arrested after attempting to flee.

According to court documents, a search of Polk’s residence yielded additional methamphetamine, digital scales, and paraphernalia indicative of drug sales. The substance tested positive for methamphetamine, totaling 38.65 grams. Additionally, officers found six firearms and approximately 263 rounds of .22 caliber ammunition in the home.

Polk has been incarcerated since his December 2016 arrest. His previous conviction for a crime that carried a prison term exceeding one year disqualified him from owning firearms.

The investigation was conducted by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF) and the Coleman Police Department. Assistant U.S. Attorney Sean Long prosecuted the case.

U.S. Attorney John Parker of the Northern District of Texas announced the sentence, highlighting the severity of Polk’s crimes.
