South Florida’s Anthony Gignac, also known as ‘Khaled Al-Saud’ and ‘Khalid Bin Al-Saud,’ has been sentenced to 224 months in federal prison for an elaborate impersonation scheme that defrauded investors out of millions. The defendant convinced his victims through a guise of royal status, selling them false hopes with the promise of lucrative investments.
According to U.S. Attorney Ariana Fajardo Orshan and Diplomatic Security Service (DSS) Special Agent in Charge Frederick R. Stolper, Gignac’s scheme spanned over three decades and involved sophisticated tactics such as using fake diplomatic license plates and a fraudulent Diplomatic Security Service badge. His victims included numerous investors who were stripped of more than $8 million.
In his portrayal as Prince Khalid Bin Al-Saud, Gignac operated under the alias Marden Williams International LLC (‘MWI’) to perpetuate his fraud. He claimed access to exclusive business ventures in Ireland, Malta, and the Middle East, all the while enjoying the lavish lifestyle of a Saudi Royal.
U.S. District Judge Cecilia M. Altonaga delivered the sentence, noting that justice had been served for the victims. The U.S. Attorney’s Office commended the Diplomatic Security Service for their role in the investigation and international cooperation.
Gignac pleaded guilty to charges including impersonating a foreign diplomat, aggravated identity theft, wire fraud, and conspiracy to commit wire fraud. He began his scheme as early as May 2015, creating an Instagram account that featured him with Saudi Royal family members and using royal protocol for business meetings.
This case underscores the lengths scammers will go to deceive and the devastating impact on innocent investors. Gignac’s sentence serves as a stark reminder of the consequences of such fraudulent activities.
